NTDA Week Spotlight: Q&A with Denise Watkins, Manager of Carrier Services, TA Services

While we celebrate our drivers 365 days a year, we wanted to make a special call out during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, so we caught up with Denise Watkins, Manager of Carrier Services, TA Services to get her opinion on what makes a great carrier partnership tick.

Q: What excites you about this industry and why do carriers find TA Services interesting to work with?

A: This is not a cookie cutter industry. You’re not going to do the same loads or the same stuff on a daily basis. That’s the good thing. It’s the interest of where you’re going, what you’re doing and what you’re about to move today. I love thinking ‘What is it that you’ve never seen before?’ And then something comes in and you think ‘oh, I never knew we could move that, but here we go… We’re going to try it!’ That is one of the best things about being here. It’s ever changing. So it’s very interesting on some days you have to sit down and you have to study it and you have to understand it, understand how to move it and understand what kind of carrier will be the best to help.

Q: You’ve been managing Carrier Services for 17 years. What motivates you?

A: When you have to figure out the dynamics on how to move a new or special product. Once you do, you’ve learned something new. So it’s a constant learning tool here because of how many different product lines type of equipment we move. Every day there is something new to learn. We appreciate the carriers that go on this journey with us.”

Q: Why do Carriers choose TA Services?

A: These aren’t partners or people that you just pick up the phone and move them one time. We want to build a relationship. They have our cell phone numbers. We know each other’s birthdays and life events. These are the kinds of relationships we build with drivers at TA Services.
